I just wanted to thank the staff and crew (including the cats) at coconut tree divers. My boyfriend Ryan and I were on a cruise (carnival Legend)last week and had a stop in Roatan. We somehow ended up in your shop (and we are very greatful for that), and had a great dive experience. Everybody in the shop was so helpful and accommodating, and they made us feel right at home. Unfortuanalty for us, we did not have the same experience or at home feeling on Carnival, so we are very thankful for our stop with the coconut tree divers, who made our whole vaction worth while. So far when discussing our cruise we only talk about our visit with you guys, and we are already in search of planning a vaction in Roatan, and diving with the Coconut Tree crew. Thanks again for making our vaction a good one!! Joy Anderson and Ryan Fisher

From Terry Blake...
February 18 2010

WOW, what a great dive shop. I have over 5000 dives and have been diving around the world and I can honestly state that they are the clearly the best. They are in a league of their own. They always have more staff than necessary on the dives to assure every detail is covered and that all divers enjoy a safe and fun dive. The captains Carl and Fred are very friendly and experienced. The boats are comfortable, spacious and safe. The owners PJ and Gay are great people as well as professional dive operators. They were always happy to assist me in any area outside of diving to make everything easier during my stay in Roatan. They know how to run a first class operation. Tree the manager, Monty, Jose and Marcos the instructors are truly professional across the board as well as all of the other instructors. The PADI Instructor and dive master programs run by Will have always been popular and are second to none. Actually there is not a bad apple in the bunch. They all have a good attitude and the atmosphere is always pleasant. I have been diving with Coconut Tree for almost seven years and have no desire to change. It was reassuring to see from my last visit (January 2010) that their recent political problems on the mainland have been resolved and are now in the past. The island of Roatan is laid back like it has always been on my prior trips. The island is as beautiful as the water is clear. It is not flat like most Caribbean islands and is very lush. I also find it much more desirable than other destinations due to it being much cheaper in every category. I am a minister who runs his affairs honestly and without hesitation I can highly recommend Coconut Tree Divers to anyone who wants to have a great and safe dive vacation. Their services have always exceeded all of my expectations and I was more than satisfied in every aspect. They will make your vacation one to remember. I miss them and look forward to diving with them again in the future. Thanks guys! Blessings, Terry Blake Wilmington NC

Almost a year has passed and I still fondly reflect upon the fun we had in Roatan. The warmth and hospitality extended to us by the Coconut Tree team made our trip extra-special.

I continue to recommend Coconut Tree to prospective divers at home in Canada.

Hope you are all well,

Monty, Cactus, Rags, Simon, Kevin, Jose, Matt, Tree, Gay, PJ, Peter, Steve, and everyone,

Thanks for a terrific week of diving. You guys definitely have a good thing going down there, culturewise. Great people plus great diving plus end-of-day beers on the patio make a killer combination. Thanks to Tree for getting us to Spooky and Bear's Den before we had to head back to the States. Awesome sites!

I hope the people who're staying away from the Bay Islands due to the political situation soon realize that it's left the islands untouched. Those who stay away are missing out on some impressive diving.

All the best,
Tyler

Hi Gay and Gang,
I really want to let you know how much I appreciate all you did for me last week. As slow as it was (many days I was the only paying customer), you always insisted that we go diving. I truly felt as “one of the family”. I have always had great diving experiences with you since you took over Coconut Tree Divers. I am already counting the days until I get back there in February.

Thanks to Gay, Tree, Carl, Fred, Marco, Jose, Will, Monty, Rags, Rolando, Steve, Simon, Peter, Natasha, Cactus, and Nathalie.

Until we meet again in Roatan, one of your biggest fans,

The First thing that struck me when I saw the shop the first time was the emphasis on Security on their outside sign. Let me tell you, they are not kidding...Security first divers should actually be their business name. What a bunch of professionals they have there. A big THANK YOU to all the DM that we got a chance to know during those 2 fantastic weeks. Special thanks to Monty for pushing that regulator button and lifting me up to the surface when I chocked on salted water at 20 foot under :-)
I will recommend you guys for the rest of my stay on this planet and maybe beyond...who knows, maybe heaven is a giant aquarium

PS: To all the tourists out there wondering whether to go or not to Roatan because of the political situation, let me tell you that the most violent thing I saw during those 2 weeks was a gecko eating a fly

Cheers

What a professional, fun bunch of crazy people who all share my love for everything aquatic. The dive team at Coconut Tree made sure my diving experiences surpasses every mornings dive, with lines like...you thought todays site was great, wait until you see tomorrows site.

Memorable experiences include Steve and the obstacle course of Bears Den, Joel and Brett as the best dive master buddies ever, and Marco taking us on a fast current dive of Texas.

The night of the dive Olympics was a great night not only to cheer on the local dive schools, but to also raise some money for the kids of Roatan. From what I can remember, a great night was had by all.

I chose Coconut Tree specifically because of the 2 tank advanced dives in the morning. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the dive staff, everybody was professional and extremely fun. I definelty will return.

Gaye thank you for running such a great shop.

Thanks to all of the folks at Coconut Tree Divers for a terrific time last month.

To celebrate our 30th anniversary, our family came down to Roatan for the first time and the folks at Coconut made this one of the best vacations ever. Marco and Tim, our instructors, were terrific to work with and very professional in completing our open water certification dives.

As novices, we were opened to a whole new world that we will be sure to re-visit.

April 17 2009

Hi Coconut Tree! Charles and I are safely ensconced back in Brooklyn but already planning out next trip back to Roatan to do our Advanced Open Water Certification with you guys. Your dive shop was really what made our experience what it was on Roatan. Both having suffered from our share of some of the crappy dive outfits out there, it was a relief to finally deal with a shop where the staff was understanding, patient, informal, funny, and yet consummately professional. Everyone was so great and helpful. We really enjoyed hanging out with Matt, Steve, Jose, Joel, Brett, Stephany, Hunter, Brandon, Tree, and everyone else. So we will definitely be back, hopefully with more people in tow next time. And next time I will be doing ALL of the dives (including the mornings!) Gay, you were such a sweetheart for letting us use the snorkeling gear that last day. Another reason why you guys are the best!

Thanks so much,
Susan and Charles

Gay, PJ and all the CTD team : THANKS A LOT for a wonderful week of diving in Roatan.

The atmosphere of the dive center was great, the boat is one of the best I have used so far, the instructors and DMTs were all very professional. With all the beautiful corals and sponges, morray eels, turtles, sting & eagle rays plus all the fish we saw, I could not have spent a better week.

Hope to visit you again in the future and will definitely recommend CTD if asked by friends (actually already started at the airport while waiting for the plane).

Thanks again.

From Hector and Madeline Velazquez ...
April 4 2009

The wife and I visited Roatan last year and stayed at an all inclusive resort. While the diving operation was first class, we felt somewhat isolated, as the resort is located quite a distance from other island activities. We were so impressed with the diving that the we decided to return this March 2009 with a few friends. This time however, instead of staying at an all inclusive resort we decided to rent a villa in the west end and dived with coconut tree divers (“CTD”).

I have to say that my experience with CTD was fantastic. Because we had a few in our group who were novices, we spent a lot of time researching dive operators in the West End area. Our primary concern was the type of boats available and identifying dive masters who could be patient enough to deal with our diverse group. CTD did not disappoint and met all our expectations. Tree, the manager, was great. He recognized that at least one of our crew needed special assistance and he made sure he got it. The dive masters were all patient and accommodating. Special kudos to Marco (my wife’s long lost brother from another mother), Matt, Monty and Will. Anki and Rinaldo were especially helpful with our weak link, Alberto, who could not equalize to save his life (I think its mental--we are requiring he seek assistance from a hypnotist before our next trip).

We are already planning our next trip and we plan to return to CTD. Thanks to all the crew at CTD including the new addition, Charlie.

Thanks folks for a great dive experience. We will see you soon.

I would just like to say that my training experience at Coconut Tree Divers with Jose was excellent. I felt safe and comfortable for the entire course! Safety and making sure we all knew how to do everything right was always top priority. Others should learn from their example. I would highly recommend Coconut and Jose to others.

From Mr Vivian...
March 7 2009

Just got back from two weeks with Coconut Tree, my first time with them. I give them my wholehearted recommendation; they're an outstanding operation. Clearly, PJ and Gaye have instilled the meaning of customer service and teamwork in their staff. Can't find your gear in the morning from the indoor secure storage area...."can I help you find it?" When the boat returns to the dock, the entire staff troops down from the shop across the road to help offload divers, gear and tanks regardless of who was DM-ing on the dives. They'll do their best to group novices and experienced divers on separate boats. My wife blew a hose on her backroll (giant strides also possible) . They quickly changed her over to a spare set of gear and she was able to proceed on the dive with the rest of us. They promote a sense of community in their staff and customers: free coffee's available when the shop opens at 8:00 and a cooler of beer (on the honor system for $5 / 5 beers pre-pay) is wheeled out when the last dive boat returns. Everybody congregates on the deck and just chills. I'd dive with them again in a heartbeat.

From Steve J...
February 3 2009

Hi Gay - Steph and I want to thank everyone at "Coconut Tree" for showing us a great time last week. We dove mostly with Adam and Matt and they both are very adept in identifying various diver's individual ability levels and they're really pros knowing when to assist without hovering.

It was nice "chilling" on the shop's deck and your coffee was surprisingly good. The "Bottom Time" is a nice dive boat and of course the soft coral reefs were outstanding.

We'll for sure head for "Coconut Tree" the next time we're diving out of the "West End"

Best regards,
Steve J.

Dear Tree, Gay, Steve, Monty and all the rest of ya,
In a nut shell (or a coconut shell) my trip to Roatan far exceeded my expectations....the beauty of the island is beyond words, my return to the underwater world left me wanting more, (yes, I promise not to let 20 years go by before I dive again) and the relaxed pace of island life was just what i needed! The highlight of my journey was meeting wonderful people like you. Thanks for the fun dives, great conversations and late afternoon beers on the deck. If any of you make your way to California, please look us up and we\'ll share the beautiful waters and kelp forests of the Monterey Bay.

It\'s a lovely 70 degrees here in Santa Cruz....I think I\'ll call in sick to work and go play with my horses....I need a day to transition back to reality!

My Best,
Colette

Last week was unforgettable -- I'm sure I speak for our small group when I say we were completely satisfied with the services of your shop. And, as much as anything, we just enjoyed the staff. As for instruction, we were very happy and impressed with Jose Silva; he's a consummate professional, serious about teaching, patient with us beginners, and still fun to work with. Great job by all of you.
Cheers,

Our PADI cards came in the post last night and it reminded me to send you off a mail to thank you for all your assistance in getting our Open Water certifications. Everyone in your shop was amazing; friendly, professional and totally welcoming. Marco was a fabulous teacher, knowledgable, personable and passionate.

I don't know if we'll be able to dive in Canada again after having been able to experience such world-class diving with such lovely people. Thanks again for everything, and I can assure you, you'll be seeing us again soon. This time around, we'll definately take Adam up on his offer to do our Advanced.

Thanks again.

I had a great time doing my Open Water and Advanced Open Water with you guys. All my instructors were knowledgeable and great teachers. I can’t wait to come back and dive more of Roatan. After diving at a couple of other places in Central America I wish I would have spent the extra time with Coconut Tree. I really appreciated the new equipment that you use, the well organized shop that you run and the awesome dive sites we visited. See you next year!

Hey everyone! Luke is still travelling, I just made it back to the States last night from Nicaragua, our adventures were amazing, not least of which was gaining our Open Water certification with you guys! As Marco and Adam know, I was so super scared, but you guys made me feel so comfortable and taught me so well, that I began to feel that scuba was not only something that I was totally capable of doing, it's also so much fun and completely awesome!

Thanks to our instructors and everyone else at Coconut Tree who helped to make our stop on Roatan a truly wonderful experience. Tree, Gay, Kelsey, Rags, Kirk, Steve, etc, etc, thank you all sooo much! Oh, and thank Orlando...or is it Rolando, tell him that we made it off the island on a cargo ship, haha!

Can't wait to come back and take advantage of that new Spirit flight!

From Ron and Alex...
October 19 2008

When we first stopped at Roatan on a cruise, it was only by pure chance that we found West End and Coconut Tree divers at all. Talk about good luck!

From the moment we stepped into CTD, we were made to feel at home. No stuffy dive shop here. Just friends you haven't met yet. P.J., Gay and Tree run a great shop. With safety always foremost, and fun right behind. The crew become freinds that just happen to be keeping an eye out for you and guiding you to the best spots (like there are any bad ones on these dives?).

From that first chance meeting, it has turned into a annual pilmigrage that has us completely spoiled for diving any place else. We are now thinking about making twice a year.

Suffice to say, I can't say enough about this place and the great friendly crew that simply open their arms and welcome you as part of their ever growing family.

Be Safe, and we'll see ya again next year for our 5th return...this time, I'll bring 2 bottles of Grand Ma's!

Ron and Alex!

October 15 2008

The Vikings have returned to their home country. Our loot this time consists of about 2500 marvellous pictures. We had a BALL! The group is already talking about a return visit, and a lot of people have asked me: "When is the next trip?"

For one week we sampled the best that Roatan can offer under water - and that is the "helluv'a lot". All my dives were marvellous. Next year I'll bring more memory chips for my camera and a larger harddisk on my computer!

Safety was always the number one priority, and the staff really made us feel like "part of the family".

Accomodation was -eh- basic, but well worth the money, and besides: Who wants to be indoors on Roatan for any other purpose than sleeping?

Thanks to you all, and espesially to our guide Steve for his relentless efforts in makeing each dive better and more spectacular than the previous.

Next year we go for 90 minutes bottom time - on each dive!

Thanks all!

PJ & Gaynor,

There are few times on a vacation when I can say I actually paid attention and learned a lot...this was one of them! Probably because it had something to do with staying alive 100 ft below the surface!

Please tell all your staff that my friends and I had an amaaaazing experience doing our Advanced Open Water and Fun Dives with your company. You came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The instructors were not only extremely knowledgable about the technical aspects of diving but also with the divesites themselves. Overall, your staff was friendly, patient, and REALLY funny!

Roatan was beautiful and we were blessed with great weather. Diving with Coconut was like icing on the cake! It was truly a perfect vacation.

Thanks for letting us, stressed-out, uptight, loud, obnoxious New Yorkers take a deep breath and relax.

From Bill Maxey...
May 8 2008

Hi PJ and Gaye,

How are you guys? Marco asked me to write a testimony for your "new" website . Ryan and I (Bill Maxey) had a wonderful time diving with you guys. Say hello to those great divemasters: Marco, Tim(back in Colorado), Marc, Kiwi, Aussie, and others whose names I don't have. BTW, we did 14 dives with you guys, and I have the dive log page for the first 6, but not the 8 we did after returning from La Cieba. Could you send the log for 8 dives 3/29 thru 4/1(I believe these are the dates). Feel free to take whatever excerpts you desire from my testimony:

Ryan Maxey (age 24) and Bill Maxey(Ryan's Dad, age 61) had an exceptional Father/Son experience diving with Coconur Tree Divers during the Easter/Spring Break period of 3/23 thru 4/1. During this time we did 14 "fun dives" , far more than we ever expected before arriving. We also did a night dive and "Shark" dive that the shop helped us setup with other shops. We even cancelled the 2nd half of our trip on the mainland to do more diving with CTD! Diving in Roatan is just plain fun, given West End's great island atmosphere, bars, restaurants, etc. Since most dive sites are some 10-15 minutes from the shop by boat, we usually did 3 dives a day, and we never dove the same dive twice.
PJ and Gaye are most cordial and inviting to all divers, and this attitude carries over through the Dive Masters, and staff. I have been diving off and on or 25 years, often encountering DiveMasters who love to intimidate one like me who goes on dive trips once every several years, and appreciates refreshers and patience until I am back in the diving groove. I never encountered such an attitude @ CTD, and was made to feel part of their community of divers from the first day, and we made many good friends with all the staff. The shop is extremely professional and organized, and accomodated our request for a wreck dive, drift dive(Texas, which was the most exhilerating dive we did), Shark dive with an affiliated shop, etc.
I observed the patience, knowledge, and professionalism shown by instructors for those getting open water, and advanced dive certifivcations. This was particularly shown by Marco, a superb instructor and DiveMaster. Ryan appreciated Tim's calm attitude, where he let Ryan do self discovery away from the Dive Master, exploring in a safe diving manner. We both particularly liked the "Apres Dive" atmosphere on the deck of the shop at the end of each diving day. You can chat about the day's diving adventures, while enjoying the really cold beers sold on the "honor system". I particularly enjoyed buying beers for the staff as a "thank you" for a great day, in addition to tips which are shared by all staff.
I would highly recommend CTD to all divers, whether experienced or getting certified. Ryan and I, and other diving friends will definitely be returning to Roatan's West End to dive with PJ, Gaye, and the guys! Where else can you have so much fun for $25 a dive!!

Regards, Bill Maxey

Well, once again you've earned your reputation as an outstanding dive operation with an exceptional staff. This trip I brought a newcomer to your dive operation who was impressed with your shop and staff from the first sincere welcome to her final farewell.

As a repeat guest, I always look forward to returning to the Coconut Tree family. Divers, from beginning ranks to senior citizens, are offered safe, exhilerating diving experiences, as well as professional courtesy, humor, and friendship. I thank you again for making each trip an adventure.

Good luck on your continued expansion. I look forward to returning as soon as my "dive fund" is replenished.
