Sidemount

Want to try something new, and on the leading innovative edge of diving? Try our Sidemount course, the only one available in Roatan! With years of sidemount, tec and commercial diving experience, instructor Monty Graham was involved in the development of the course and equipment and has created a unique and challenging course that will change the way you dive.

Sidemount diving is a style of diving that evolved from cave and cavern diving practices, but is becoming increasingly popular in recreational diving. Two tanks are worn on the sides, with a harness and bladder, rather than the traditional "backmount" configuration we all dive with. It offers greater flexibility, safety, versatility and comfort. Our Sidemount instructor, Monty, has a wealth of experience and a unique knowledge base to share with you.

You need to be 18 years old, PADI Advanced Open Water certified (or qualifying certification), and have 20 logged dives.

You will start with a knowledge development session where you will learn about the theory behind Sidemount diving. This is followed by a practical application where you will go over equipment set up and adjustment. This is radically different from a traditional set up, and the correct adjustment of the harness is extremely important. There are also two confined water sessions where you will begin to master some of the skills specific to Sidemount diving, including buoyancy control and gas management. These skills are then applied on two open water dives.

Plan on allowing 2 to 3 days to complete the course.

You will be certified as a Sidemount Diver (distinctive specialty), up to a maximum depth of 18m/60ft in open water (not overhead environments).

Change your style of diving! If you are interested in Tec Diving, the Sidemount course can be applied to completing the Tec courses in a Sidemount configurations, rather than the traditional backmounted "doubles". It can also prepare you to enrol in a cave or cavern course, as the Sidemount specialty is taught with a minimalist set up (following the cave diving community safety practices) and the skills are taught with a variety of different environments in mind.
